If you are a beginner, start with season 1. It includes 40 episodes that will help you learn or review the basics, master your pronunciation of tricky sounds, and listen to real Ukrainians speak in common situations. Stick with Anna until the end of each episode to learn an interesting Ukrainian culture fact!

The second season of the podcast focuses on basic Ukrainian grammar in the context of real-life situations. Here you will discover Ukrainian cases and put them right to practice in some common conversations. A special treat awaits you at the end of season 2 ― our listeners’ favorite Ukrainian History Course in simple Ukrainian (Episodes 71-80).

We call our third season “Пригоди Христини в Україні” – “Christine’s Adventures in Ukraine.” Christine is an American girl of Ukrainian descent who moved to Kyiv for one year. Follow her conversations and voice messages as she discovers life in Ukraine. Each episode includes your teacher Anna’s explanations about vocabulary, verbs and idioms of the day.

Up for a more advanced challenge? Then go to our fourth season for episodes entirely in Ukrainian! Your teacher Anna speaks slowly and clearly to give you a chance to train your ear and increase your understanding. At the same time, you discover a lot about Ukrainian culture and history, famous Ukrainians, Anna’s life, and so on. Each episode also includes an idioms section, as well as an advanced grammar point.

Our final season is the most advanced one. It contains not only more interesting stories in slow, simple Ukrainian but also longer conversations with Ukrainian guests that bring more voices and variety to the podcast. At the end of each episode, you can also dig deeper into some useful Ukrainian sentences.

Season 6 of the Ukrainian Lessons Podcast is here, this time amidst a full-scale war. However, life in Ukraine continues, and we remain dedicated to exploring the richness of Ukrainian language, history and culture all presented in slow, clear Ukrainian. At the beginning of each episode, your teacher, Anna, outlines comprehension questions and complex vocabulary that are then revisited at the end for reinforcement. This season’s premium membership’s proceeds from October 2023 are donated to support military medics in Ukraine.

Hi there! My name is Anna, and I am your Ukrainian teacher 😃

I created the Ukrainian Lessons Podcast to give people all around the world access to learning my language wherever they are – on the way to work, in the car, or on the plane to Ukraine!

I speak six foreign languages, and I have experienced living in different countries. I also dedicated six years of studies and a whole career to my beloved Ukrainian. That is because I strongly believe it is my strength and mission to teach the Ukrainian language and culture to the world by means of digital technology.

In our Notes, you can find everything said in the podcast in Ukrainian. It allows you to follow the script, check difficult parts, and practice your reading skills. In the first seasons, you will also find full English translations of the dialogues and texts, and for the episodes in slow Ukrainian (seasons 4-6), there are translations of difficult vocabulary on the margins.

The format of the lesson notes allows us to provide you with extra explanations, detailed grammar charts, and more examples for your lesson. You will also find convenient lists of vocabulary (seasons 1-3, 6), idioms (season 4), and useful sentences (season 5).

There cannot be too much practice in language learning. That is why we provide you with short and sweet exercises in different formats to check your understanding of the lesson material. The answers to the exercises are included in the following notes.

We love Anki flashcards! Based on spaced repetition technique, this tool has proved to be great for learning and reviewing vocabulary and phrases. That is why, for every ten episodes of the podcast, we prepared a deck of flashcards that you can use in the Anki app (free for most devices, except iPhone and iPad). Our cards are based on the vocabulary from the episodes (seasons 1-3, 6), phrases and idioms (season 4), and useful sentences (season 5). They also include fun images, word stresses, and audio recorded by your teacher Anna.

What is included in premium?

There are two types of materials in Premium Membership: 1) printable PDF Lesson Notes for each podcast episode; 2) Anki decks of digital flashcards with vocabulary from lessons. In Lesson Notes, you will find dialogue transcripts, English translations, vocabulary lists, bonus explanations, and exercises. The content depends on the season of the podcast.

How do I use digital flashcards?

To start, you will need to download the official Anki app on your device. This app is free for most devices (Windows, Mac, Android), however, you have to pay a one-time payment to use it on iOS. After purchasing the premium, you will receive the files that you will open in Anki. We will also send you additional instructions about how to set everything up.

Which season should I choose?

If you are a complete beginner or have some basic knowledge, consider starting with season 1. You can try listening to it here and if the episodes are too easy for you, move on to season 2. If you are already almost fluent in Ukrainian and just need additional practice, we suggest seasons 4 & 5 ― they contain lessons that are 100% in simple slow Ukrainian.
