There are three main tenses in Ukrainian:
- теперішній час ― present tense;
- минулий час ― past tense;
- майбутній час ― future tense.
While this may seem straightforward, the nuances of Ukrainian verb conjugation can be challenging, especially when the dreaded aspect is involved.
All Ukrainian verbs are characterized by one of two aspects:
- недоконаний вид (imperfective aspect) for ongoing or habitual actions;
- доконаний вид (perfective aspect) for completed actions or those intended to be completed.
Last but not least, Ukrainian verb conjugation varies: present and future tenses change by person and number, while the past tense forms differ by gender.
To aid your learning, we have combined all three tenses in Ukrainian, both aspects, and basic conjugation information in one simple but powerful chart. Explore it below and feel free to download and share.
